24 Day Challenge Results & Color Run!

The 24 Day Challenge is done, and in those 24 days, I have lost 7 pounds and 11.5 inches (3 of those from my waist alone)! I have gained a lot of energy (for example… right after finishing a 5k this weekend, I suggested we pack up and go camping!!) as well as a renewed confidence in myself. While the weight loss is amazing, the most stunning result I have noticed in myself is that I no longer need my medication for depression and anxiety. That is a huge deal! As I said in a prior update, I love this stuff so much, I signed up as an independent distributor. I have been privileged to meet so many inspiring people in the past two weeks, and feel like the more I learn, the more I love Advocare. I would love to share more about it, or my experience, so if you want to know more, please contact me.

This past Sunday, we ran the Color Run as a family for Forced Family Fun.This activity was my idea, and I was so happy everyone was so enthusiastic! As the organizer of this FFF event, I decided the scoring – 1 point for fastest guy, 1 point for fastest girl, and 1 point for the most colorful.

For those who aren’t familiar, the Color Run is a 5k where participants wear white and are covered with a different color (dyed cornstarch) at each kilometer.

All of us before the race – still clean!

Just the girls (it was Megan’s mom’s birthday, so she had a special shirt!)

Stuart and I decided in advance to run together and start off slow. When we started, we started FAST and it was a little too much for me, so we ended up walking about half – alternating walking and running. After the race, I gave Stuart a hard time about starting so fast, and discovered that he thought he was going slow. I think I need to find a running partner with shorter legs!

We came into the finish running and were greeted by Stuart’s dad, Jim (fastest guy) and Stuart’s brother, Geoff. I won fastest girl!! When the other ladies finished, we walked over the the stage where we all threw colors around – it was a thick cloud of color and hard to breathe, but so beautiful! Right before we left, we grabbed a bystander to be our impartial judge on “most colorful” – Jim won, although looking at this picture, I think we all should have won a point for that!

After!

Birthday recap

Tuesday was my birthday, and probably one of the best in awhile. Have you noticed how it takes a little adjustment to birthdays once you are no longer a kid? As a parent, things just aren’t all about ME anymore (obviously), even on my birthday. Toddlers throw fits, kids have accidents, and there are still bad drivers out there.

I started the day on a really good note though — my peonies which were so late to bloom, finally did. Gorgeous! They smell wonderful!

I am still on the 24 Day Challenge, so I decided to check out a food truck that only does food in alignment with the Paleo diet. I knew I could trust a Paleo place because they eliminate a lot of the same foods that the 24 Day Challenge does – grains, dairy, processed foods, refined sugar, etc. The food truck is called Caveman Cafeteria. It is excellent! Since the 24 Day Challenge requests you to eliminate or at least go light on red meat, I ate the tomato/basil salad and the coconut kale. I’ve never been a huge kale fan… but this kale is to die for. If you still don’t love kale, you must go try this. Right now.

Next, we went to a bakery that serves Paleo approved treats. Below is the cupcake I enjoyed on my birthday. It is made with almond flour, fruit, date sugar, etc. All natural and approved ingredients. I also had a bottle of Perrier and it felt totally indulgent. This place was amazing, and I think even people without a restricted diet should check out Mmm Coffee. Don’t be fooled, they serve more than coffee. We will absolutely be back.Young Family, Old House

In the afternoon, I went on a birthday gift card fueled shopping spree at Nordstrom Rack, one of my favorite stores ever! I bought several fun new things, including new running shoes (to replace the ones I will soon trash at the Color Run) and new sunglasses — security tag not included, thankfully!

That night, I made the lettuce wrapped fish taco, cabbage slaw, and mango salsa recipe I posted on Monday. I highly recommend that meal!! In fact, we are copying the same exact meal plan for this week.

After dinner, I challenged Stuart to a rematch of Monopoly. Our last game was ugly, and I wanted a chance to prove my skills! Even Monopoly knew it was my birthday, and this card was the start of a very ugly monopoly bankruptcy for Stuart.

Happy Friday, everyone!
